Maybe you are using an Android phone to connect to your Asterisk server and you also have a phone at your desk or maybe just at home. But all the phones have their own extension and only ring when you call that extension.
It would be nice that all phones ring at once when one of the extensions gets a call. Well there are several options in Asterisk to do this. For example you could add a ring group, but ring groups would better fit a companies department rather then ringing all your phones. To my opinion it is better to add a "Follow Me" list in your extension. Please read on and find out how to do this.

In this tutorial I will have 2 extension. The extension are 1000 and 1001. The result will be that if one of those extensions will be called, both connected phones to these extensions will ring.

  1. Login into your FreePBX administration and goto "Extensions".
  2. Open the extension 1000.
  3. In the top of the page you will see a link "Edit Follow Me Settings". Click on it.
  4. Adjust the setting "Ring Strategy" to "ringall".
  5. Edit the "Follow-Me List" and make sure that both extension are in the list (1000 and 1001).
  6. Click on "Submit Changes".
  7. Repeat these steps also for extension 1001.

This is all you have to do. Once of your extensions is being called now, you will notice that all your phones ring at the same time. The first phone to pick up the call gets the call.
